KUALA LUMPUR: Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd
has launched the start-up of its low-pressure compressor (LPC) project in Brunei, marking a key milestone in sustaining production from the Block B Maharajalela Jamalulalam field.
The project, operated by the group's subsidiary Hibiscus EP (Brunei) B.V. (HEB), commenced operations in April 2026, with the official launch held on June 4 at the Onshore Processing Plant in Lumut.
In a statement, Hibiscus Petroleum said the project achieved several industry firsts, including the world's first water-saturated Integrated Compressor Line (ICL) compressor and Asia's first operational ICL compressor.
Upon integration with a planned 12-megawatt solar farm currently under construction, it is also expected to become the world's first ICL compressor powered by solar energy.
The project also contributed two million manhours without a lost-time injury, extending HEB's safety record to 27 years without a lost-time injury incident.
Petroleum Authority managing director Shamir Salahudin said the successful start-up demonstrated how collaboration and innovation could maximise the value of Brunei's existing oil and gas resources while supporting continued development of the upstream sector.
Meanwhile, Hibiscus Petroleum managing director Datuk Dr Kenneth Pereira said the project strengthened production sustainability, improved asset reliability and supported lower-emission operations through innovative technology.
He added that the LPC project had delivered encouraging production gains since start-up, which are expected to contribute positively to the group's financial and operational performance for the fourth quarter of the financial year ending 2026.
The project manager, Irman Yudiana, said the development underscored the strategic importance of integrating technology and responsible operations to enhance the long-term value of HEB's assets.
