KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd
has posted a net profit of RM139.12mil in the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2Q26), as compared to RM126.69mil in the year-ago quarter, underpinned by improved revenue of RM1.36bil against RM1.28bil in the previous quarter.
Cumulative six-month net profit came to RM254.15mil, up from RM252.95mil in the 2025 period, while revenue rose to RM2.61bil from RM2.51bil in the previous comparative period.
The bank said the improved first-half (1H26) performance was supported by higher net fund-based income and stronger fee and commission income, partially offset by lower gains from the sale of securities.
Total overhead expenses in 1H26 rose by 3.9% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM855.9mil, reflecting the group’s continued investments in talent, digital capabilities and technology infrastructure.
On balance sheet, the group’s gross financing in 1H26 grew 7.5% y-o-y to RM77.9bil, reflecting continued customer demand and growth across both retail banking and institutional banking segments.
Customer deposits and investment accounts increased RM4.2bil, or 5.1% y-o-y, to RM86.9bil, providing a strong funding base to support financing expansion.
Current accounts, savings accounts, and transactional investment accounts (Casatia) grew 9.4% y-o-y to RM31.8bil, representing a Casatia ratio of 36.6%.
Moving forward, the bank said it will focus on the tenets of simplification, automation and digitalisation as it embarks on a strategic renewal to achieve sustainable growth.
“We are reviewing our processes, operating model and cost structure to eliminate complexity, improve execution effectiveness and deliver faster, more seamless and intuitive customer experiences.
“At the same time, we will invest purposefully in talent development and technology, accelerate digital adoption and build a core banking architecture and infrastructure that strengthens the group’s agility and resilience,” said group chief executive officer Raja Teh Maimunah in a statement.
Separately, Bank Islam announced that it had appointed Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah as its chairman, with effect from today. He is an experienced banker with over 30 years of domestic and international banking experience.
