PETALING JAYA: UCSI University will soon be establishing a campus within the Gamuda Gardens’ township in Rawang, Selangor.
Property developer Gamuda Land and UCSI University have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the university’s new satellite campus within the 1,342-acre integrated township.
The campus, which is expected to begin operations in January 2027, will initially accommodate around 2,000 students and feature 45 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, indoor basketball courts and various learning and recreational facilities.
Gamuda Land chief executive officer Gim Teck Yew said the land that will house this future campus was sold to UCSI.
“The residents (at Gamuda Gardens) have been asking us – now that this area has hit a certain level of maturity, they actually want education facilities in the township,” Gim told StarBiz.
The first phase will comprise about 66,000 sq ft of space, offering undergraduate programmes in business and management, creative arts, computer science, electric vehicle and autonomous mobility studies, alongside diploma and foundation courses.
“Plans are also in place for a larger 6,000-student campus on a six-acre site, targeted for completion in 2031,” it said.
Gim said the collaboration reflects the continued evolution of Gamuda Gardens into a mature and integrated township.
“Education has always been a key component of our masterplan, along with homes, parks, commercial offerings, and community spaces,” he said.
Gim added this would help create a more complete township while supporting long-term community growth and economic activity.
UCSI University president and vice-chancellor Datuk Siti Hamisah Tapsir said in a statement the new campus would complement the university’s existing campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Springhill and Bangladesh.
“We are glad to partner with Gamuda Land in this effort for higher education offerings in Rawang and the Northern Klang Valley corridor,” she said.
She added the university would gradually expand its programme offerings as the campus grows.
Gamuda Land said the Northern Klang Valley corridor is expected to see demand for accessible higher education due to an expanding population of young families.
The campus is also expected to boost rental demands and commercial activity within the township as students and faculty will have access to Gardens Square and the upcoming Atrium retail development.
Gamuda Land said it plans to introduce future residential components within the Gamuda Gardens township, which includes high-rise residences and serviced apartments to cater to students, academic staff and young professionals.
Meanwhile, Gim said Gamuda Land has a sales target of more than RM6bil for its financial year 2027 ending in July.
“We believe this can be achieved as we are selling well in Vietnam.
“We are confident of hitting this target, led mainly by Vietnam and Singapore.
“All in all, we are planning launches of almost RM10bil in gross development values in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam,” he told StarBiz after the signing ceremony.
