PETALING JAYA: Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd has launched the LTH Excellence Scholarship Programme, committing about RM1mil annually to support up to 15 student-athletes in its first year as part of its efforts to nurture future academic and sporting talents.

In a statement yesterday, Matrix Concepts said this is more than a scholarship initiative and reflects a long-term commitment to nurture young talents through a comprehensive approach that brings together academic excellence, sporting achievement, leadership development and character building.

Matrix Concepts founder and group executive deputy chairman Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock shared a deeply personal reflection on the role education has played in shaping his journey at the launch yesterday and which continues to shape the group’s direction.

“Education has always been close to my heart. I still remember growing up in a simple family with limited opportunities.

“Even so, I always believed that education had the power to change a person’s life – it gave hope, it opened doors and it allowed me to go beyond the circumstances I was born into,” he said.

Lee added this belief has remained a guiding force in Matrix Concepts’ continued commitment to education and youth development, where the focus extends beyond academic achievement to include character building and life preparation.

The LTH Excellence Scholarship Programme is supported through the Matrix Concepts Foundation, which is funded by contributions from the profits of Matrix Concepts Holdings’ subsidiary companies.

“This reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to education, youth empowerment, and community development, ensuring that long-term social value creation remains an integral part of its business philosophy,” the company said.

“The programme’s launch also carries special significance as Matrix Concepts celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.”

Built on this foundation, Matrix Concepts said the initiative provides structured support to deserving student-athletes across Malaysia, offering tiered scholarships across international, national, state and emerging talent levels to ensure opportunities are accessible across different stages of development.

Beyond financial assistance, scholars will benefit from access to quality education at Adcote Matrix Malaysia Schools, dedicated sports development support, and structured mentorship designed to strengthen both academic and athletic growth.

“At its core, it also places strong emphasis on values such as discipline, resilience, integrity and leadership – qualities that shape not only athletes but also future contributors to society,” the group added.

In its first year, up to 15 scholars will be supported annually across a range of sporting disciplines, including badminton, athletics, swimming, football, basketball and other competitive sports, with a total allocation of approximately RM1mil per year.

Selection is guided by a structured and merit-based framework that considers athletic performance, future potential, academic commitment and character – ensuring that each scholar is chosen not only for what they have achieved but also for the potential they carry into the future.

“Beyond scholarships and structured development, the LTH Excellence Scholarship Programme reflects Matrix Concepts’ broader commitment to long-term social impact under its environmental, social and governance agenda.

“It is anchored in the belief that true value creation goes beyond infrastructure and development – it lies in people.”
