THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has ordered AirAsia Philippines to halt operations at all government-managed airports over PHP270mil (RM17.42mil) in unpaid fees.
In a cease-and-desist order dated June 2, 2026, CAAP director-general Raul del Rosario directed the airline to cease operations within its jurisdiction within three days of receiving the notice.
The order also bars AirAsia from utilising airport facilities unless authorised in writing by CAAP.
Del Rosario cited the low-cost carrier’s “continued failure to pay outstanding obligations despite repeated collection efforts”.
CAAP records show AirAsia had accumulated PHP271.94mil in air navigation, landing, parking and passenger service charges from 2021 to May 2026. The figure excludes pending penalties and interest.
The regulator had previously issued a formal letter of demand on May 11, 2026. However, its June 2 directive noted “no payment, settlement proposal or other arrangement had been received” by the deadline.
CAAP added the suspension is “without prejudice to other legal, administrative or civil actions” to recover the debt. - Bilyonaryo
