PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) has officially inaugurated its new office at Menara Matrade, placing it at the core of the nation’s trade and investment ecosystem.
MCBC said the new address, home to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade), would enable deeper collaboration with key government trade and business facilitation agencies.
It added that the move to Menara Matrade reaffirms the council’s commitment to serving Malaysian and Chinese business communities with greater impact, moving forward.
MCBC convened its board of directors meeting yesterday, chaired by Senator Tan Sri Low Kian Chuan, MCBC’s chairman appointed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Established in 2002, MCBC’s aim is to enhance and promote bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Malaysia and China.
The council acts as a trusted platform for connecting governments, businesses, and investors across the two nations.
Furthermore, the council works to facilitate dialogue, remove trade barriers, promote investment, and build enduring business networks to create shared prosperity as well.
With China as Malaysia’s largest trading partner, MCBC stressed its crucial role as a strategic interlocutor between the public and private sectors of both countries.
Notable achievements under the leadership of the new board include the establishment of the Asean-China-GCC Business Council to expand avenues of regional trade and investment between business communities of Asean, China, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Additionally, MCBC had organised the prestigious Malaysia-China High-Level Business Dialogue, which provided a direct platform for discussions between the prime minister and China’s top 120 industry leaders.
The council also played a pivotal role in the state banquet and welcoming dinner for the historic official state visit of President Xi Jinping to Malaysia.
MCBC has set up five committees to drive in-depth bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, infrastructure, small and medium enterprise (SME) empowerment, and digital transformation.
These comprise the Committee on the Asean-China-GCC Business Council Initiative, the Committee on ECRL Corridor Development and Agricultural Investment, the Committee on Industry-Government Linkages and Policy Coordination, the Committee on SME Supply Chain Facilitation, and the Committee on Technology, Digital Economy and Innovation.
