KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed higher yesterday with market sentiment improving following reports that Iran may attend a second round of negotiations with the United States in Pakistan.
At 5pm, the FBM KLCI rose 13.03 points, or 0.77%, to 1,715.33 from Monday’s close of 1,702.3.
The benchmark index opened 0.31 of a point higher at 1,702.61, and moved between 1,700.54 and 1,716.64 during the day.
In the broader market, gainers thumped losers 722 to 502, while 547 counters were unchanged, 988 untraded and 13 suspended.
IPPFA Sdn Bhd director of investment strategy and country economist Mohd Sedek Jantan told Bernama, “Fresh signals indicate both sides continue to work towards a potential deal, supporting risk-on sentiment across Asia, even as US President Donald Trump indicated that an extension of the two-week ceasefire was unlikely.”
