Malaysia’s export values dip in November, imports mixed


KUALA LUMPUR: The export unit value index decreased by 0.1% in November 2025 from the previous month.

The Statistics Department (DOSM), in a statement, said the decline was mainly driven by lower indices for mineral fuels, which fell 2.2%, inedible crude materials, down 1.0%, and chemicals, which fell 0.1%.

Likewise, the export volume index fell 8.9%, in line with declines in animal and vegetable oils and fats, down 27.4%, machinery and transport equipment, which dropped 11.9%, and manufactured goods, which slid 9.1%.

The seasonally adjusted export volume index also declined 6.3%, easing from 177.1 points to 165.9 points.

Nevertheless, DOSM said that on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, both the export unit value index and export volume index expanded by 3.3% and 3.7%, respectively.

The import volume index rose 0.8% in November 2025 from the previous month, supported by higher indices for machinery and transport equipment, which climbed 7.5%, and miscellaneous manufactured articles, up 2.1%.

The seasonally adjusted import volume index increased 4.2%, rising from 225.0 points to 234.3 points.

On a y-o-y basis, the import unit value index fell 1.9%, while the import volume index edged up 18.0%.

Separately, Malaysia’s terms of trade slipped 0.02% month-on- month to 123.7 points in November 2025, weighed by declines in mineral fuels, down 1.9%, inedible crude materials, which fell 1.0%, and food, easing 0.05%.

On a y-o-y basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade rose 5.2% from 117.5 points in November last year.
