STREAMLINING DIGITAL TRANSACTIONS

RHB’s DuitNow QR POS is directly integrated into merchants’ existing POS systems, ensuring the correct amount is charged and that payment is routed to the right recipient account.

IN TODAY’S rapidly evolving business landscape, enterprises are grappling with a paradox: the drive for digital efficiency often clashes with the manual, error-prone reality of payment collection.

The persistent issues of cash reconciliation headaches, the operational risk of missing cash and the rising threat of payment fraud are drag factors on profitability and customer experience.

To combat this, innovative solutions are needed to aid merchants and consumers alike. RHB Bank Bhd is addressing this exact need, aiming to bolster operational efficiency and payment security by integrating DuitNow QR directly into merchants’ existing point-of-sale (POS) systems.

RHB DuitNow QR POS is designed to facilitate cashless payments and fundamentally streamline the entire checkout process, simplifying the transition for businesses to embrace the future of commerce.

Simplified transactions

For years, the shift to cashless payments has involved friction for merchants and vendors. Merchants were often forced to switch between their POS systems and separate terminals or screens to accept a simple QR payment.

This disjointed process led to longer queues, increased human error, unnecessary operational complexity and challenges in reconciliation.

By integrating the DuitNow QR process into the merchant’s existing POS software, RHB eliminates the fragmented process, making transactions simplified into a single, seamless step. With this system, the moment a customer scans and pays, verification happens instantly within the POS interface.

This means no more switching between devices or screens, just a single, unified point of sale that increases operational efficiency.

The impact could be immediate for businesses managing a high volume of transactions, such as chain restaurants and large retail stores, as they could eliminate several critical pain points that erode their bottom line.

Cost-saving

Integrating DuitNow QR into a POS system typically costs between RM20,000 and RM50,000. With RHB DuitNow QR POS, merchants can now avoid this substantial expense and redirect those funds to other operational needs.

Secure payments

In alignment with Bank Negara Malaysia’s and Payments Network Malaysia’s (PayNet) fraud prevention initiatives, RHB continues to innovate to meet evolving customer needs.

Combatting fraud yields broad economic benefits, enhancing stability, operational efficiency and public trust, while reducing financial losses.

To aid this endeavour, RHB’s DuitNow QR POS system targets risks faced by modern merchants, such as reconciliation errors and payment fraud.

“The system ensures that every DuitNow QR transaction reflects directly and instantly in the merchant’s POS system with no delays or uncertainties, representing a verified, authenticated payment to provide an immediate and reliable record of transactions,” said RHB Bank group transaction banking head Dev Raaj.

This level of real-time data integration eliminates the hours spent manually tallying payments and investigating discrepancies, reducing the occurrence of reconciliation issues.

Businesses get verified payments they can count on, boosting cash flow management and accounting accuracy.

Additionally, one of the most insidious threats in the cashless environment is the “fake screenshot” scam, where unscrupulous customers present fabricated payment proof and walk away with goods or services. RHB’s system is designed to actively combat fraud, making scams such as this virtually impossible.

Since the payment status is verified automatically and digitally within the POS system itself, staff no longer need to visually check and confirm a transaction on a customer’s phone screen.

Now, only verified payments make it through, keeping the business secure while building confidence in the shift towards fully cashless models.

This solution is a win-win for both merchants and customers.

By generating a payment request directly from the POS, the system ensures the correct amount is charged and that the payment is routed to the right recipient account linked to the business.

At the same time, payments from multiple modes can now be consolidated within the POS system, easing end-of-day closing. The consolidated payment transaction records can also be seamlessly uploaded into any accounting software for reconciliation purposes.

This guarantees payment amount accuracy and ensures funds are directed to the right merchant every time, facilitating a smoother experience for the end consumer and ensuring accuracy in reconciliation for the merchant.

Driving digitalisation

“This advancement is part of RHB’s broader commitment to driving digital innovation and supporting the economic aspirations of businesses across the nation,” said RHB Bank group wholesale banking managing director Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir.

“As outlined in the bank’s three-year strategic roadmap—Progress27—RHB is focused on delivering exceptional customer service, driving high profitability and reinforcing its position as a responsible and purposeful financial institution.”

The deployment of the integrated RHB DuitNow QR POS system is a tangible manifestation of its objective to be the best in service through enhanced digital journeys by empowering businesses and advancing financial inclusion.

Additionally, RHB was named the Best e-Payments Bank at PayNet’s Malaysian e-Payments Excellence Awards 2025, while also receiving the National Scam Response Centre Vanguard of Vigilance Award.

PayNet’s performance data as at 3Q25 shows that RHB outperformed or matched industry growth across key digital payment products—particularly DuitNow, MyDebit and FPX—leading to material market share gains and a solid improvement in industry rankings.

Currently, RHB has more than 50,000 DuitNow QR merchants across MSME, SME, commercial and corporate customers.

PayNet’s performance data confirms RHB is a leader in the next generation of cashless transactions, registering as one of the fastest-growing financial institutions in the country.

Crucially, RHB’s acquiring performance registered a massive 65.6% growth in total volume against an industry average of 42.6%, making it the fastest-growing in the entire industry.

The engine driving this success is the DuitNow ecosystem, the very platform powering the new RHB DuitNow QR POS solution.

In the acquiring space, DuitNow volume soared by an exceptional 80.0%, significantly higher than the industry’s 65.6% growth rate.

Furthermore, the bank’s issuing performance saw DuitNow value outperform the industry with +30.0% growth.

This impressive momentum extends across other key services, demonstrating broad-based strength.

In the acquiring space, MyDebit volume skyrocketed by 53.7%, more than double the industry’s rate of 25.4%.

Additionally, FPX volume growth saw RHB outperform the industry in the issuing segment.

These recognitions showcase the bank’s commitment to protecting customers, safeguarding trust, delivering seamless digital experiences and elevating customer experience across all key touchpoints.

It also reflects RHB’s strong risk management practices and robust internal controls, reinforcing the strength of the bank’s digital transition roadmap.
