DRB-Hicom unit acquires Spirit Aerosystem

PETALING JAYA: Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), a wholly owned unit of DRB-Hicom Bhd, has completed its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems Malaysia Sdn Bhd, strengthening its role in the global aerospace supply chain.

The deal had received approvals from DRB-Hicom shareholders in mid-November, as well as earlier clearance from competition regulators in Europe and the United States, according to documents made public on Oct 14 and Dec 3.

CTRM said the purchase will expand its aerostructures capabilities and increase its participation in major commercial aviation programmes. Spirit Malaysia supplies components for Airbus’ A220, A320 and A350 aircraft, and for Boeing’s 737 and 787 models.

The company expects the enlarged group to gain efficiencies of scale and greater access to long-term work packages with global manufacturers.
