Perodua to launch first EV by end of this month

Perodua has said that in the early stages, its first EV would be over 30% locally assembled at its new factory in Rawang and would be priced under RM80,000.

RAWANG: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) will launch its first electric vehicle (EV) that meets national requirements at the end of this month, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The EV to be launched will be affordable, meet national requirements,” he said during an engagement session with Perodua staff yesterday.

The prime minister said the launch would reflect the strength of domestic research and development (R&D) as well as workforce capability.

“The EV launch is proof that the company not only has an excellent R&D team but is also disciplined in terms of management and governance,” he said.

In May, Perodua was reported as saying that in the early stages, its first EV would be over 30% locally assembled at its new factory in Rawang and would be priced under RM80,000.

It said that with initial production capacity expected to be 500 units per month, the EV would be targeted at young buyers and small families who would benefit from an affordable EV. — Bernama
