THE latest trade deal with the United States requires the Malaysian government to apply the lowest excise duty rate in each vehicle category for “US-manufactured internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, regardless of engine size.”
This could shave thousands of ringgit off the price of the usually large-engine American cars that typically have over half their cost taken up by taxes.
