PETALING JAYA: Sunway Healthcare Group has launched the RM430mil Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, marking a major milestone in its healthcare expansion in northern Malaysia.
In a statement, Sunway Healthcare Group president Datuk Lau Beng Long said Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh benefits from the group’s extensive network, offering a full spectrum of care from quaternary and tertiary hospitals to day-patient and step-down services.
"As Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh is part of our Sunway Healthcare Group integrated framework, it is supported by our flagship quaternary hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, located in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
He added that, “patients will also be able to access specialists and technologies in subspecialised niche areas should the need arise.”
Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh houses Perak’s first PET-CT scanner and surgical robotic-arm system, providing advanced cancer care and robotic knee replacement surgery.
It added that the medical centre offers 37 specialties, 165 licensed beds, 63 consultation suites, eight operating theatres, and 24 critical care units, including eight paediatric and neonatal bays.
It also houses a dedicated Cancer and Nuclear Medicine Centre and six Centres of Excellence covering Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neurosciences, Clinical Oncology, Women and Children’s Health, and Digestive Health.
Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh CEO Choy Wah Wei said: "We are committed to providing quality healthcare to communities in Perak, increasing the accessibility to specialised, personalised care and reducing the need to travel to Penang, Selangor or other states for surgeries and accurate diagnosis.”
“I’m proud to say that our hospital, despite only starting operations in April 2025, has pioneered several procedures in the state.”
Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh is the fifth tertiary hospital under Sunway Healthcare Group, which currently operates 11 healthcare facilities comprising five hospitals and five ambulatory and complementary care centres, in addition to Sunway Sanctuary, a senior living residence.
It has plans to expand nationwide, with new tertiary hospitals planned at Sunway City Iskandar Puteri in Johor, Putrajaya, Seremban Sentral Transit Oriented Development in Negeri Sembilan, Paya Terubong in Penang and Kota Bharu in Kelantan.
In Johor, the healthcare group is also on track to add a medical centre in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri and an ambulatory care centre within Sunway’s integrated development in Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru.
By 2032, Sunway Healthcare Group’s network of hospitals will have a combined capacity of some 3,400 beds.
