KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corporation Bhd
has signed a reservation agreement with Japan’s Mitsubishi Power Ltd to secure advanced gas turbines and generators for its planned 1,400-megawatt combined-cycle power plant.
Malakoff said in a statement today that the agreement marks a significant milestone in its efforts to deliver high-efficiency, lower-emission energy solutions in line with Malaysia's national energy transition agenda.
The agreement, which was executed on Oct 10, covers the procurement of M701JAC gas turbines and gas turbine generators. The M701JAC is known for its high thermal efficiency, fuel flexibility, and reduced carbon footprint through cleaner combustion technology.
Malakoff group chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said that by obtaining access to the advanced M701JAC gas turbine technology, the company is reinforcing its focus on innovation, energy security and long-term sustainable growth.
"Securing a reservation for the first two gas turbines provides greater certainty over the key supply chain
components and supports the timely development of our planned combined cycle power plant in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia," he said.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Power executive vice-president Daichi Nakajima said the partnership represents a meaningful step toward strengthening Malaysia’s energy resilience and accelerating its transition to lower-carbon power generation.
"Malakoff is taking decisive action through this endeavour, and Mitsubishi Power is proud to support with our advanced gas turbine technology, among the world’s most efficient and reliable.
"Through this collaboration, we look forward to strengthening our relationship with our valued partner and contributing to Malaysia’s long-term energy ambitions,” he said. - Bernama
