KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will have a significant presence at K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, taking place from Oct 8 to 15 in Dusseldorf, Germany, with 12 Malaysian companies and 30 representatives led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade).

This marks Matrade’s sixth participation at the fair, underscoring the nation’s consistent drive to showcase its innovation, quality, and sustainability capabilities on the global stage.

K 2025 will gather over 3,000 exhibitors and more than 225,000 trade visitors from around the world, reaffirming its position as the premier platform for innovation and business in the plastics and rubber industry.

This year’s edition also commemorates the fair’s 71st anniversary. Anchored on the theme “The Power of Plastics! Green, Smart, Responsible”, Malaysian exhibitors will highlight a wide range of solutions, from acrylic sheets for creative and commercial applications to specialised materials for flexible packaging and film extrusion.

Several companies are also introducing sustainable materials, biodegradable and compostable resins, as well as recycled-content solutions – reflecting the industry’s embrace of the circular economy.

Idzham Abdul Hamid, director of the Oil & Gas, Chemical and Energy Section of Matrade, said that Malaysia’s participation underscores its commitment to advancing sustainability in the global plastics industry.

“Our presence at K 2025 reflects Malaysia’s strengths in innovation, quality, and responsibility. By embracing recycled content, sustainable resins, and circular economy practices, our companies are well-positioned to contribute to greener industrial solutions,” he said.

He added that Malaysian participants are committed to reducing waste, adhering to international environmental standards, and incorporating recycled materials to support multinational clients in achieving their sustainability objectives.

Germany continues to be Malaysia’s largest trading partner in the European Union, with bilateral trade reaching RM64.64bil last year.

For the first eight months of this year, trade with Germany grew by 3.6% to RM22.45mil, with plastics and rubber products contributing significantly.
