Local institutions extend buying streak with RM148.6mil net purchases - MBSB IB

KUALA LUMPUR: Local institutions remained net buyers for the sixth straight week on Bursa Malaysia, recording net equity purchases of RM148.6 million during the shortened trading week ended Sept 4, 2025, MBSB Investment Bank Bhd (MBSB IB) said.

In its weekly Fund Flow Report, the investment bank noted that local retailers also extended their buying streak for a second week with net purchases of RM38.9 million.

Foreign investors, meanwhile, lengthened their selling streak to nine weeks, though net outflows eased to RM187.6 million from RM1.41 billion in the previous week.

"The smaller figure was largely due to the shortened trading week, with markets closed on Monday and Friday for public holidays,” MBSB IB said.

It added that foreign investors were net sellers on two of three trading days. The only day of inflow was Wednesday at RM173.2 million, while the heaviest outflow came on Tuesday at RM251.5 million, followed by Thursday at RM109.3 million.

By sector, the largest net foreign inflows were in construction (RM135.3 million), transportation and logistics (RM41.5 million) and healthcare (RM38.9 million).

The biggest outflows were in financial services (-RM417.1 million), telecommunications and media (-RM43.1 million) and utilities (-RM35.9 million).

Average daily trading volume fell across all investor groups. Retail investors and local institutions saw declines of 15.7 per cent and 17.5 per cent, respectively, while foreign investors posted a sharper contraction of 42.2 per cent, the bank said. - Bernama
