PNB confirms ongoing talks on highway assets, process still at early stage

KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) today confirmed that discussions are ongoing with several parties regarding its highway assets in Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas).

However, PNB stressed that the process is still at a relatively early stage and no decision has been made on the matter.

In a statement to Bernama today, PNB said it is currently undertaking a strategic review of its investment in Prolintas as part of its regular portfolio evaluation.

"This initiative is aimed at identifying opportunities to enhance long-term value for the benefit of its unitholders,” it said.

PNB said that the review covers several options, including retaining ownership of the assets or bringing in a strategic partner.

"PNB reiterates that all investment decisions are guided by a rigorous governance process aligned with its core mandate and long-term investment objectives.

"In evaluating its options, PNB is cognisant of the importance of Bumiputera and institutional participation, as well as safeguarding rakyat's interest, which remain central to any potential outcome,” it said.

Therefore, PNB said it is unable to comment further, and any material developments will be communicated through the appropriate channels in line with regulatory requirements.

Yesterday, IJM Corp Bhd group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Lee Chun Fai confirmed that the group had submitted a proposal to acquire PNB’s highway assets.

He said IJM was invited to participate in a request-for-proposal (RFP) process and that the company was awaiting PNB’s decision.

Previously, PNB had reportedly explored the disposal of its toll road portfolio under Prolintas --  the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE), the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) and a 51 per cent stake in Prolintas Infra Business Trust.

Last month, it was also reported that IJM Corp and AFA Prime Bhd were among the parties interested in PNB’s highway assets. - Bernama
