PETALING JAYA: The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) is actively investigating with relevant authorities to determine if any Malaysian laws or regulations have been violated.

The ministry said this in response to recent reports regarding a Chinese company using servers with Nvidia and artificial intelligence (AI) chips for large language model training in Malaysia.

While clarifying that servers utilising Nvidia or AI chips are not classified as controlled items under the Strategic Trade Act 2010, Miti emphasised Malaysia's commitment to cooperating with any government seeking assistance in monitoring the trade of sensitive goods under their respective export control regulations.

It said Malaysia takes a firm stance against any individual or entity attempting to bypass export controls or engage in illegal trade activities.
