Bina Puri pledges full cooperation in trading activity probe


KUALA LUMPUR: Bina Puri Holdings Bhd has stated that the group is prepared to extend full cooperation to the relevant authorities in investigations into the unusual trading activity involving its shares, as well as those of several other companies.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the construction company said it is ready to cooperate with the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia Bhd should they require any information or assistance during their investigations.

"The group would like to reassure stakeholders that the personal accounts and shareholdings of its key shareholders and owners have not been compromised or accessed without authorisation.

"The board of directors remains committed to transparency and the protection of investor interests," it said, adding that the group will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Earlier, the SC and Bursa Malaysia issued a joint statement regarding reports from a few brokers who identified failed client logins and unauthorised access or trading activities executed through a limited number of clients’ online trading accounts.

The regulators said actions were taken to minimise the risk of further unauthorised access and trading.

Intraday short selling for Bina Puri has been suspended after the stock's share price dropped as much as 42.7 per cent or 16 sen to 21.5 sen in early trade today.

At the close, Bina Puri shares dipped by 11 sen, or 29.33 per cent, to 26.5 sen per share from Thursday's close of 37.5 sen, with a total of 54.18 million shares traded. - Bernama
