PETRONAS announces first oil delivery from GKGJE Phase 4

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has announced the first oil delivery from the Gumusut-Kakap/Geronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) Phase 4 offshore project, achieved on Feb 4, 2025.

This event marks another milestone in the cross-border collaboration between Malaysia and Brunei, reinforcing regional cooperation in deepwater oil production, it said.

"The GKGJE Phase 4 project comprises three oil producers and one water injector, strategically positioned with two wells located in Malaysia and two in Brunei.

"Designed to maximise resource recovery and enhance production efficiency, the project is tied back to the Gumusut-Kakap Floating Production System (FPS), further solidifying its role as a key deepwater production hub in Malaysia,” Petronas said in a statement today.

MPM senior vice president Datuk Bacho Pilong said the first oil from GKGJE Phase 4 is a testament to the power of collaboration.

"This achievement underscores the strong partnership between Petronas, our petroleum arrangement contractors, oil and gas and services equipment (OGSE) players, and our Bruneian counterparts in advancing deepwater capabilities while ensuring responsible and efficient resource development,” he said

According to the statement, the project exemplifies Petronas’ commitment to unlocking deepwater potential through innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainable development. Its success was driven by a strong cross-border alliance, ensuring full compliance with both Malaysian and Bruneian regulations.

"Led by the Unitisation Management Committee - a joint effort between MPM and Brunei’s National Unitisation Secretariat - the collaboration streamlined policies, optimised logistics and enhanced operational efficiency, setting a new benchmark for cross-border petroleum activities. - Bernama
