TNG Digital launches free feature in ewallets allowing toll passthroughs

KUALA LUMPUR: TNG Digital Sdn Bhd (TNG Digital) has introduced a new feature, SOS Balance, to ensure users are able to pass through toll booths despite insufficient balance in their TNG eWallet.

It will be introduced to selected TNG eWallet users starting today at no cost, giving them a 24-hour grace period to top up their eWallet and settle any outstanding toll charges.

TNG Digital chairman Effendy Shahul Hamid said the free feature will contribute to smoother traffic flow and reduced bottlenecks at toll plazas.

"The main reason users get stuck in toll plazas is their lack of balance in their TNG ewallets,” he told a media conference after officiating the launch of SOS Balance graced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi here today.

"SOS Balance solves this by allowing a qualified user who arrives at a toll plaza with insufficient balance to have their toll charges settled by the eWallet, allowing them to pass, with the obligation to top up their eWallet within 24 hours," he said.

TNG Digital chief executive officer Alan Ni said the feature is not available to all users because it is free.

"The feature is only available to loyal customers currently as they are less likely to abuse it," he said, adding that TNG Digital is willing to absorb some degree of losses.

"We strongly encourage users to make payments within 24 hours, but in practice, payments can still be made after that period.

On plans to extend the service or parking charges, Ni said the company has to evaluate the performance, risks, and potential losses first.

SOS Balance is available at RFID and PayDirect-enabled highways, with a current coverage spanning 31 out of 33 highways across Peninsular Malaysia. - Bernama
