With the Budi95 petrol subsidy set to begin on September 30, Malaysians aged 16 and above with a valid driver’s licence will be entitled to 300 litres of RON95 a month, priced at RM1.99 per litre.

Eligible motorists will be able to pay for fuel by verifying their MyKad at petrol stations, either at the pump or over the counter, before tapping their payment cards.

Meanwhile, Malaysians using the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet app can skip MyKad scans when refuelling if they first complete an electronic Know-Your-Customer (eKYC) verification beforehand to confirm their identity and eligibility for the subsidy.

The eKYC process requires users to submit a photo of their MyKad or passport along with a selfie for identity verification. Further details on the eKYC steps are available on the TNG eWallet website.

Payments via QR

Once the app is set up and the account is verified, TNG eWallet users will then be able to pay for petrol through the Budi Madani RON95 mini programme within the main app.

According to TNG Digital, the mini programme will be rolled out in stages, starting on Sept 27 for members of the Armed Forces and police, on Sept 28 for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients, and on Sept 30 for the general public.

When available, Malaysians can tap the Budi95 button in the TNG eWallet at the petrol station, confirm the station's location in the app, enter the pump number, choose the amount of fuel, and then pay for it using their ewallet balance.

After that, a QR code will be generated, which can then be scanned to unlock the pump. It is also worth noting that any unused balance will be automatically refunded if the tank fills up before the selected amount of fuel is pumped.
