MPOB: Use FTAs to promote palm oil globally

Malaysian Palm Oil Board director general Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Khadir.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia should use the free trade agreements (FTAs) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership to promote palm oil at the global level, says the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said the expansion of the Asean trade relationship with China, India, South Korea and Japan would further strengthen the exports of the commodity.

He said it is also important, with Asean as the largest palm oil producer, to work together and meet global demand for the commodity.

“Starting from Jan 1, 2025, we have the MSPO 2.0, which is more stringent and fulfils all the international requirements,” he said during Bernama TV’s programme on “Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship in palm oil diplomacy” here yesterday. — Bernama
