KLANG: Eleven federal statutory bodies and three local authorities were awarded the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (Saga) Compliance Certificate by the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (JANM) at the SAGA Compliance Certificate Awards Ceremony 2024 recently.

The award recipients for 2023 and 2024 were Penang Regional Development Authority, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Central Terengganu Development Authority, Skills Development Fund Corp, Land Surveyors Board Malaysia and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority.

Other recipients were the National Film Development Corp Malaysia, Tanah Merah District Council, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Pekan Municipal Council, Pendang District Council, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

Accountant-General Nor Yati Ahmad, in her speech, said from 2010 to 2024, a total of 115 of 434 government agencies, or 26%, had been awarded the Saga Compliance Certificate.

She said JANM would conduct compliance reviews at agencies that had obtained the compliance certificate to ensure that all criteria continue to be met, thereby ensuring the quality of the certification.

“The Saga Government Agencies Conference will be held biannually to provide exposure and share information on the latest technological developments in computerised financial and accounting systems that meet Saga compliance criteria.

“It also serves as a social networking platform between government agencies and JANM to exchange knowledge and discuss current developments or challenges relevant to accounting,” she said at the ceremony.

The Saga Compliance Certificate is awarded to government agencies that have developed accounting and financial application systems after obtaining the system design approval from JANM based on the Accountant-General’s Circular No. 3 of 2018.

The development includes in-house or commercial off-the-shelf accounting and financial application systems and related financial data support systems.

At the same event, certificates of appreciation were awarded to the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, Higher Education Ministry, Human Resources Ministry and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry.

Other recipients were the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, the Communications Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Department, and the State Secretaries of Kedah, Pahang, and Kelantan. — Bernama
