CIMB Group appoints Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin as CIMB Thai’s chairman


PETALING JAYA: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has appointed Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz as CIMB Thai Bank’s chairman and director, effective July 19, 2024.

In a statement, CIMB Group said Azmil Zahruddin will succeed Datuk Robert Cheim Dau Meng, who has retired.

Azmil Zahruddin was appointed as non-independent director of CIMB Group on July 1, 2024.

Formerly the chief investment officer at Khazanah Nasional Bhd, he served Khazanah in various senior positions, including deputy managing director and executive director of Investments from 2011 to 2022.

Azmil Zahruddin was also the managing director and chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines from 2009 to 2011, having previously held the position of executive director and chief financial officer.

Prior to that, CIMB Group said Azmil Zahruddin was in multiple leadership roles at Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and Hong Kong.

He is currently the chair of the board of CelcomDigi Bhd and independent non-executive director of Sime Darby Bhd.

He is also a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
