KUALA LUMPUR: Sapura Resources Bhd has inked a conditional heads of agreement with RoyalJet LLC for the potential acquisition of the the former’s aviation business at Subang International Airport.

In a statement, Sapura Resources said RoyalJet, a private aviation firm based in Abu Dhabi, intends to establish a presence in the South-East Asian private aviation market, by designating Subang International Airport as its regional hub for private charters and for their maintenance, repair, and overhaul business.

It said both companies expect the proposed acquisition of Sapura Resources’ aviation arm by RoyalJet to be in tandem with the current plans to rejuvenate the private aviation industry, which would benefit Selangor’s economic development around Subang airport.

“With the excellent bilateral relations of the two countries, we look forward on the discussions with RoyalJet,” said Sapura Resources managing director Datuk Shahriman Shamsuddin.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood says this potential deal between RoyalJet and SRB complements the efforts to rejuvenate Subang Airport

“Our focus is to position Subang Airport as a premium city and regional airport, as well as further develop the general and business aviation sectors in Malaysia.

“The presence of RoyalJet in Subang Airport will create momentum in attracting more international aviation players into the ecosystem,” he said.
