Fama targets RM7mil sales from food expo

GEORGE TOWN: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) is targeting sales of more than RM7mil involving 124 entrepreneurs at Malaysia Fest, the annual Malaysian food and culture expo.

Malaysia Fest will be held in Singapore from July 27 to 30, 2023. Fama chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the expo, which offers a variety of Malaysian products, was always well received by Singaporeans

“The entrepreneurs who participate in the expo will promote and market products which symbolise the states in this country, including tourism destinations and handicrafts,” he told Bernama.

“Among them are various types of food from Penang, such as Pak Ali’s honey pickles, belacan, Hang Tuah coffee, songkok and tarbus, while Terengganu also has keropok leko and many more products from other states,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the Penang Fama Fest 2023 at Bukit Jambul Complex, here yesterday. The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Chan Foong Hin.

Aminuddin said besides previous expo participants who have their own fan base in Singapore, there will also be new entrepreneurs taking part to develop their businesses and aiming to export their products abroad.

In addition to the sales target of RM7mil, he said Fama is also targeting potential sales from business matching worth RM3.5mil at the expo.

“Most of the entrepreneurs who have participated in the expo have business links with companies abroad and we hope that through their participation, more business matching can be made in an effort to expand their respective products,” Aminuddin said.
