TM names Zainal Abidin Putih as chairman, Amar Huzaimi as MD/GCEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has appointed Datuk Zainal Abidin Putih as chairman effective Aug 1, 2023.

He will succeed Tan Sri Azlan Hashim, who completes his 2-year term on July 31, 2023, TM said in a statement.

The telco has also appointed Amar Huzaimi Md Deris as the new managing director/group chief executive officer effective Aug 1, succeeding Datuk Imri Mokhtar.

Zainal Abidin is currently chairman of Financial Reporting Foundation (FRF), Land and General Bhd, Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd and Tokio Marine lnsurans (M) Bhd, as well as board member of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and several private limited companies.

He has previously served as chairman of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd, CIMB Bank Bhd, Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) and President of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

As chairman, Zainal Abidin will be responsible for overseeing the overall governance and strategic direction of TM. He will work closely with the board of directors and management team to drive TM's next wave of growth and strengthen its market position.

Meanwhile, Amar, who started his carrer with TM after graduating in 1998, is currently heading TM's domestic and global wholesale business.

Amar’s roles have ranged from financial control, internal audit, corporate and regulatory affairs, group CEO’s office, culminating in his current P&L position at TM Global.

TM said his strategic vision, combined with operational experience and grasp of global leading technologies, ideally positions him to steer TM's evolution from a telco to a TechCo.

His achievements have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his recognition as one of CPA Australia's 40 young business leaders (2012) and by Capacity Media's 'Power 100' list in wholesale carrier community (2019, 2023). These accolades further attest to his leadership capabilities and the promising future he holds at the helm of TM.
