"My contract... I have had no reason to believe (that it) will not be extended, there are indications that there will be an extension.

"I do not have any reason, at this juncture, to believe that there should not be any extension,” he said at an editors briefing here on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, Tengku Muhammad Taufik said that ultimately, the decision to renew the contract is at the discretion of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In June 2020, then Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the appointment of Tengku Muhammad Taufik as the national oil firm’s president and group CEO.

Effective July 1, 2020, Tengku Muhammad Taufik replaced his predecessor Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin who had been appointed as the new Malaysian Airlines Bhd chairman. - Bernama
