Jentayu Sustainables hydropower ops commence

PETALING JAYA: Jentayu Sustainables Bhd’s soon to be acquired Telekosang Hydro One Sdn Bhd (Telekosang Hydro) has started operations on Nov 5.

The run-of-river hydropower plant is now generating and supplying electricity to Sabah’s power grid system, the company said in a statement.

This initial operation date paves the way for Jentayu Sustainables, formerly Ipmuda Bhd, to eventually conclude its acquisition of Telekosang Hydro, and this will support the group’s aspiration to be a major green energy player in the country, it said.

“Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, we have proven our resiliency and effectiveness in delivering the project,” said chief executive officer of Telekosang Hydro and the executive chairman of Jentayu Sustainables Datuk Beroz Nikmal Mirdin.

The dam is expected to generate 245,000 MWh of electricity to the grid annually, it said. The power facility has provided some 1,000 job opportunities and enabled knowledge transfer of green technology to the state of Sabah.
