Food inflation major contributor to CPI

Cost of chicken expands 10.5%

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.2% to 125.6 in March 2022 against 122.9 in corresponding month last year – surpassing the average inflation for the January 2011 to March period which stood at 1.9%, according to the Statistics Department.

In a statement, chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the rise in headline inflation was mainly driven by the 4% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages.
