Clear guidelines on well-being of the people

PETALING JAYA: The Finance Ministry will constantly monitor and improve the initiatives that have been and are being implemented to ease the rakyat’s burden, its minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has assured.

In the 57th Laksana report, he said the relevant guidelines relating to the well-being of the public have been laid out.

“The standard operating procedures for every aspect of our lives in terms of the economy, movement control and social, have also been clarified in detail, as well as the proposal for sector opening.

“It is hoped that these details will give the rakyat and businesses a clear and tangible guideline to help them plan ahead in facing Covid-19 challenges and contribute to the decline in cases, in line with the increasing vaccination rate among all Malaysians.”

Additionally, Tengku Zafrul said the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) appeal application period has been opened from June 15 to June 30, 2021, to help those who were not previously approved.

“The applicant can submit an appeal along with the relevant documents to be reviewed by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.

“As announced in the Strategic Programme to Empower the People and Economy (Pemerkasa Plus) on May 31, the government has introduced the BPR Tambahan worth RM2.1bil to assist existing BPR 2021 recipients. Successful applicants are also eligible to receive the BPR Tambahan payment.”

Separately, Tengku Zafrul said local banks have approved RM12.12bil in soft loan funds for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as at June 4.

He added that the soft loan fund operated by Bank Negara will benefit 25, 680 SMEs.

“This amount includes the Special Relief Facility (SRF), Automation and Digitalisation Facility (ADF), All-Economic Sector Facility (AES) and Agrofood Facility funds.

“Although the SRF funds have been fully utilised, SMEs can still apply for financing schemes that are still available through Bank Negara funds, such as ADF, AES and AF, ” he said.Additionally, as at June 4, Tengku Zafrul said a total of RM67.5mil had been channelled to 13, 869 businesses in the form of grants and loans for subscription of digitalisation services.

In terms of Penjana Tourism Financing scheme, he said the government had allocated RM600mil for SMEs and micro-SMEs that are still affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

“As at June 4, there were 666 applications for this funding and out of this total, 327 applications were approved with a total funding of RM65.1mil.

Meanwhile, a total of RM421.2mil was channelled during the same period to 12, 667 micro-SMEs, including those within the retail and services sectors, Tengku Zafrul added.Separately, he said a total of 322, 177 employers and 2.64 million employees have benefitted under the Wage Subsidy Programme (PSU) 1.0.

“As at June 4, the approved wage subsidy applications have reached a value of RM12.891bil.”

Tengku Zafrul added that the government has approved wage subsidy applications worth RM1.215bil under the PSU 2.0 as at June 4.

“A total of RM1.215bil was channelled to 74, 075 employers to continue operating and maintaining employment for 645, 522 employees, ” he said.

For the Recruitment Incentive and Training Assistance Programme, Tengku Zafrul said a total of 137, 593 workers had managed to get jobs through the programme as at June 4.

Among the major industries and sectors that employ workers include manufacturing as well as wholesale and retail trade, he said.

Meanwhile, for the frontliners allowance, Tengku Zafrul said the government had channelled a total of RM787.61mil as at June 4, based on 2.19 million claims comprising doctors, nurses and other medical staff directly involved in the management and containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This special allowance is also extended to members of the army, police, customs, immigration, fire department, members of the Civil Defense Force and Rela members who are directly involved in implementing the movement control order.”
