Astro not a GLC, Rohana’s resignation part of succession plan

Astro group CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhana served the company since inception for 23 years, is not and has never been a government or political appointee in Astro or any other company

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd has categorically stated it is not a government-linked, state-owned or state-linked company and the resignation of its group CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan is part of a succession plan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the pay-TV operator dismissed news reports linking Rohana’s resignation to the recent spate of resignations amongst heads of government agencies and GLCs.

“It is not a GLC.  None of Astro’s executives are either government or political appointees. The implication that Astro is a GLC, and that its executives are political appointees are both factually incorrect,” it said.

Astro stated Rohana is a professional accountant and manager, with an impeccable track record and a distinguished career.

She has served the company since inception for 23 years, is not and has never been a government or political appointee in Astro or any other company.

In Astro she rose through the ranks to become CEO in 2006, and Group CEO in 2011.

It also cited its June 7 announcement that Rohana's resignation is part of its succession plan.

Astro added the announcement was planned to coincide with the company’s AGM held on the same day.

Rohana remains the executive director and GCEO till Jan 31, 2019 to effect a smooth and orderly leadership transition, and will continue to remain as a board member thereafter.
