May unnerves UK business as Tories redefine capitalism

LONDON: To one of Britain’s best known private-equity veterans, Theresa May is the least business-friendly Conservative prime minister in decades.

May, who has appropriated policies of the opposition Labour Party, has said that she will reject the “centre ground defined by elites” and govern for ordinary people. Measures such as energy price caps and better workers’ rights will be included in the election manifesto due for release. Other ideas such as reining in executive pay might not make the final cut, but have sounded the alarm in the City of London.
