KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd hopes the newly-launched Visa Debit Card-i ONEXOX will increase the number of new cardholders from the current 2.8 million.

The Visa Debit Card-i ONEXOX is a partnership between the bank and ONEXOX, Malaysia’s first syariah-compliant prepaid brand by XOX Mobile.

In a joint statement, Bank Islam deputy chief executive officer, Khairul Kamarudin, the bank’s strategy was to work with syariah-compliant brands and companies to add value to its customers.

“This is in line with ONEXOX’s aims to raise the bar for syariah-compliant telcommunications services in Malaysia,” he said.

ONEXOX project manager, Mohd Affendi Mohd Ramli, said the dealers were actively seeking new and innovative syariah-compliant products.

“We are delighted to be able to provide them with the newly-launched co-branded Visa Debit Card-i ONEXOX in collaboration with Bank Islam, the pioneer in Islamic banking in Malaysia,” he said.

According to the statement, users will benefit from this partnership for a period of two years.

“Some of the benefits that the cardholders would enjoy are the use of TAP Mobile Banking-i, Malaysia’s first mobile banking service by Bank Islam,” it said.

TAP, equipped with an innovative chip technology, would enable users to perform their banking needs from the comfort of their mobile phone, without using Internet, it said. - Bernama
