Petron eyes 5,000 prepaid fleet cards in three years

PETALING JAYA: Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, which launched its prepaid fleet card on Thursday, aims to issue 5,000 cards in three years.

Head of retail business, Faridah Ali, said the card, protected by microchip technology and personal identification number, targeted the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with a fleet of less than seven vehicles.

“Since its soft launch in early May this year, we have issued almost 1,000 cards to our service dealers and suitable customers,” she told reporters after the product launch on Thursday.

She said the card was an extension to its previous postpaid fleet card introduced in 2014, and to-date 18,000 cards had been issued.

“We realise that not all companies are able to meet the postpaid credit requirements because of the credit facilities that Petron offers our customers.

“So, for SMEs which may not be eligible for our postpaid fleet card, we offer this to them to enjoy the benefits associated with cashless transaction, as well as, monitor and control their fuel expenses online,” she said.

Faridah said as an additional security feature, the prepaid card required the identification of the vehicle and driver before any transaction was allowed.

“The chip card technology secures every transaction for customers’ comfort and safeguards against tampering,” she said.

To reload, cardholders can easily top up with minimum RM100 credit through cash deposit, cheque payment or via the Interbank Giro online transfer every month or as required.

The Petron Prepaid Fleet card can be used at more than 570 Petron service stations nationwide.

To apply for the card, customers need to fill up a form which is available at any Petron service station and it should be submitted together with the company’s business registration form to Petron Malaysia headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. - Bernama
