Cheniere names interim CEO

SAN FRANCISCO: Cheniere Energy Inc named Neal Shear as interim chief executive officer, replacing Charif Souki, after billionaire investor Carl Icahn increased his stake in the company that will shortly begin exports of liquefied natural gas from the United States.

Shear, former head of Morgan Stanley’s commodities division, has been on Cheniere’s board since 2014, according to the Houston-based company. Icahn in a separate statement on his website congratulated the board for “having the guts” to make the change. Regulatory filings as of Dec 8 showed Cheniere’s largest shareholder Icahn boosted his stake to almost 14%.
