iflix ties up with Telekom to provide TV shows and movies

KUALA LUMPUR: Internet TV service provider iflix has teamed up with Telekom Malaysia to provide TV shows and movies to the TM home UniFi and Streamyx high speed broadband customers and may give pay-TV Astro a run for its money.

iflix in a statement said that from mid-December, all TM Unifi and Streamyx customers would receive a 12-month iflix subscription (valued at RM96) bundled with their existing TM service, at no additional charge.

The collaboration will enable the launch of significant product breakthrough with seamless sign-ups for TM Unifi and Streamyx customers.

To access their subscription, TM customers simply go to iflix.com or the iflix app, with no need to sign up or sign in.

The iflix system will recognise the user, either on a TM Unifi or Streamyx connection, and will tag that device using proprietary technology, be it a phone, laptop, desktop or tablet.

The TM customer will be able to watch iflix wherever, whenever.

TM customers will also be able to download shows to their mobile phone or tablet to watch their favourite shows, even when they aren’t connected to the Internet.

Group COO and CEO of iflix Malaysia Azran Osman-Rani said with iflix’s new seamless sign-up process and TM’s extensive nationwide coverage, “subscribers can now enjoy uninterrupted and unlimited access to thousands of their favourite TV shows and movies”.

TM executive vice president of new media Jeremy Kung said this partnership with iflix marked its first collaboration with an OTT player and the first in Asean for iflix.

“We remain open to collaborate with more OTT partners to keep up with the demand of younger generations viewing behaviour.

“We are now able to offer tens of thousands more hours of on-demand TV shows and movies to our customers via iflix, complementing our IPTV service – HyppTV offering.

“This is a win-win situation for both parties and their customers and for us, is in line with our brand promise of Life Made Easier.”

Iflix is now available in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

With almost one million subscribers less than six months since launching, iflix offers consumers the largest library of top Hollywood, Asian regional, and local TV shows and movies available in the region.

Each subscription allows users to access the service on up to five devices, including phones, laptops, tablets, and television sets, for viewing wherever, whenever iflix subscribers can also now download thousands of TV shows and movies from iflix’s vast library for offline viewing.

The service is affordably priced at only RM8 per month in Malaysia for unlimited access with no advertisements. For new subscribers, iflix offers a complimentary 30-day trial with full access to service, features and content, with no credit card or payment details required.
