PETALING JAYA: The locally-assembled Volkswagen Jetta mid-sized sedan will be an important contributor to the German marque’s sales in Malaysia this year.
The company is aiming to sell 20,000 cars this year, a significant increase compared with 11,500 units in 2013.
About 65% of its sales are expected to be locally-assembled models.
“We are confident that sales of the Jetta will surge forward, now that the car is being locally assembled and even more competitively priced than ever before,” said Volkswagen Group Malaysia managing director Christoph Aringer at the launch in Damansara Perdana yesterday.
Locally-assembled or CKD (completely knocked-down) Volkswagen cars are the Polo sedan and hatchback, and Passat which are produced in Pekan via a joint venture with DRB-Hicom Bhd

The 1.4-litre twin-charged Jetta is the fourth Volkswagen model to be locally assembled. It has a seven-speed direct shift gearbox, and is among the most powerful cars in its segment.
The CKD Jetta is priced without insurance at RM130,888 which is RM21,000 lower than the fully-imported model.
