TWO of Japan’s top banks, Sumitomo Financial Group (SMFG) and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), have expressed interest in buying the US retail business of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
The purchase, if it materialises, will boost SMFG’s operations in the United States. SMFG is the No. 3 bank in Japan.
