KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd’s (PNB) president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said the fund management company has yet to get any offer for its 49.01% stake in property developer S P Setia Bhd.
He said any offer would have to be deliberated by the board and has to be in the best interest of PNB.
“I have not received anything so I cannot comment on that ... As far as we are concerned there is nothing,” said Hamad Kama Piah in reply to a question on an offer from tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary to PNB to buy a substantial stake in S P Setia.
“All matters in relation to S P Setia will have to be deliberated at the board level ... at the end of the day (what matters is) whether it is beneficial for PNB or not.”
It was reported by a business weekly that Syed Mokhtar, with top level Government blessing, had put in a proposal to acquire a substantial stake in the property heavyweight and that PNB had asked for RM5 per share. S P Setia closed at RM3.03 yesterday.
Prior to the latest development, there were reports that PNB was looking at using S P Setia as the anchor to inject property projects held under Sime Darby Bhd
and I&P Group Sdn Bhd.
Hamad Kama Piah declined to elaborate on its plans for its property assets, except that it had to “look in the long term.”
On another note, he said PNB planned to launch Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB 2) in early April.
He said PNB was finalising the details and getting approvals from the authorities.
Meanwhile, the fund management company declared the income distribution for Amanah Saham Gemilang (ASG)-Pendidikan, ASG-Persaraan and ASG-Kesihatan of 7.10 sen, 7.05 sen and 7.20 sen per unit respectively.
PNB chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid announced that it would pay out RM12.14mil for ASG-Pendidikan, 131.2% higher than the RM5.25mil paid out last year.
“Up to March 23, ASG-Pendidikan had registered a gross income of RM8.72mil, of which RM4.43mil were profit from sale of shares, RM2.81mil were dividend income from investment in companies and RM1.48mil from investments in short-term instruments,” he said.
As for ASG-Kesihatan, it would be paying out RM13.29mil, 104.5% higher than last year while its gross income came in at RM10.77mil.
The payment of income distribution for all three funds will be automatically re-invested in the form of units and credited into the unitholders’ account on April 1 based on the net asset value of each unit trust on March 31.
