SYDNEY, Australia: Australian building materials company James Hardie Industries N.V. on Thursday approved a multibillion-dollar plan to compensate victims of lung diseases caused by its asbestos products.
After nearly 12 months of negotiations with unions and asbestos support groups, the company said it approved the compensation package and would sign the legally binding deal later Thursday.
