Experts: Vital to inculcate culture of leadership

AUTHORITATIVE or consultative? Fill vacancies in top management from within a company or hire a hotshot from abroad? Those were just some of the issues discussed by a panel of experts who talked about the need for inculcating a leadership culture.

Heidrick & Struggles managing partner Daniel Cheng said at a conference on Asian leadership in Kuala Lumpur yesterday that the debate over the Asian style of management, which was more authoritative and top-down compared with the Western approach which was more consultative and open for debate, had its benefits as it could be more efficient and focused on execution.
