THE proposed Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday is set to put Malaysia on the world map as a premier destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE).
Scheduled for completion in 2005 at a construction cost of RM550mil, the convention centre will comprise a 3,000-seat plenary hall, a 500-seat theatre, 110,000 sq ft of column-free exhibition space, two large conference halls, a grand ballroom, a banquet hall and 19 meeting rooms. The grand ballroom can seat up to 2,500 delegates, while the adjoining banquet hall up to 900 guests. There will also be a retail space for food outlets with over 200 seats, family restaurants, cafes, bureau de change, and travel agencies.
