DNB, Meta collaborate on setting up innovation lab in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and Meta collaborate on setting up a joint innovation lab in Malaysia to enhance voice and video connectivity on Meta’s platforms significantly.

Meta’s platforms include WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

In a statement today, DNB said the innovation lab would focus on driving advancements to improve the quality of experience for real-time communication (RTC) services on Meta’s social media and messaging platforms, leveraging the power of 5G connectivity.

"This proposed collaboration underscores the critical need to deliver seamless, high-quality voice and video connectivity to users, ensuring they have the best possible experience,” it said.

According to DNB, the announcement was made at the Malaysia Pavilion during the Mobile World Congress 2025, highlighting the strategic importance of this cooperation.

It said both parties are working together to finalise the terms of the proposed collaboration.

As part of this initiative, it said the joint innovation lab aims to optimise network performance and develop cutting-edge technologies to enhance RTC’s quality of experience.

It said the lab's key objectives include developing innovative solutions, enhancing network optimisation techniques to reduce latency and increase bitrate for smoother communication, and improving overall user experience for DNB 5G network subscribers.

"By leveraging the latest advancements in 5G technology, this initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the overall digital landscape in Malaysia, fostering a more connected and efficient communication environment,” it said.

Further commenting on the collaboration, DNB chief technology officer Ken Tan said DNB and Meta could drive innovation and deliver unparalleled service quality to the mobile network operator customers and their end-users. - Bernama
