Four dead, one rescued after oxygen depletion in underground water tank at a college in Myanmar

YANGON: Four people died and one was rescued alive after an oxygen shortage occurred while workers were removing support poles inside an underground water tank at Meiktila Education Degree College in Meiktila Township, according to reports.

The incident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. on November 1, when workers were removing support poles inside an underground water tank. A lack of oxygen reportedly caused them to lose consciousness, collapse and suffer breathing difficulties.

Following a telephone report from a responsible member of the public, firefighters from the Meiktila District and Township Fire Services rushed to the scene and immediately launched search and rescue operations.

Thanks to the prompt response of the firefighters, one man trapped inside the underground water tank was rescued alive, while the bodies of the other four men were recovered. - Eleven Media/ANN
