Returning Myanmar overseas workers to apply for re-entry permission at new Yangon location

YANGON: Applications for re-entry permission for Myanmar migrant workers returning from overseas leave will be processed at the Pinlon Hall in North Dagon Township, Yangon, starting November 1, according to an announcement issued by the Department of Labour on October 30.

Under the Overseas Employment Law of 1999, Myanmar workers travelling abroad for employment with a Passport for Job (PJ) must hold an Overseas Worker Identification Card (OWIC).

Workers who have temporarily returned to Myanmar on leave are required to submit supporting documents when applying for permission to return overseas. These include proof of payment of two per cent income tax and evidence of remitting 25 per cent of their earnings to their families through banks licensed by the Central Bank of Myanmar under the Authorised Dealer (AD) system or money transfer services holding a Remittance Business License (RBL).

The remittance records must cover the three months closest to the worker's return to Myanmar, along with all other required documents.

The department also provides OWIC cards for returning workers who have never previously applied for one. Replacement cards are available for those whose cards have expired, have less than one year of validity remaining, or require updated information due to a change of employer or workplace. Such changes may include the destination country, company or employer details.

Previously, applications for overseas re-entry permission were submitted by post or courier services, including DHL, to the Department of Labour's Office No. 51 in Nay Pyi Taw for review and processing.

Under the new arrangement, the application process will be transferred to Pinlon Hall at the Department of Labour's Skills Training School in North Dagon Township, Yangon Region.

Starting November 1, returning migrant workers wishing to apply for permission to travel abroad again can submit their applications in person at the new location by bringing all required documents, the department announced. - Eleven Media/ANN
