YANGON: Myanmar’s Ministry of Labour is prioritising the establishment of a formal system to channel remittances from overseas workers directly through the Central Bank of Myanmar and authorised financial institutions.
During an inter-ministerial coordination meeting on October 30 in Naypyitaw, Union Minister Maung Myint stressed the need to route overseas earnings through official banking channels.
Officials highlighted that at the five Certificate of Identity centres operating in Thailand, applicants must now submit proof of paying at least one year of income tax and three months of official remittances.
While workers have used services such as True Money, 2C2P, K-Bank and Dee Money, the Central Bank is scrutinising these records. Officials urged licensed banks and remittance operators to coordinate closely to safeguard national interests and support the socio-economic welfare of migrant families. - Eleven Media/ANN
