KUALA LUMPUR: Bangkok’s two main airports and major public transport services remain operational despite widespread flooding in the Thai capital, while key tourist attractions continue to receive visitors.
In a statement, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport remain open, although passengers have been advised to allow extra travel time as some road journeys in Bangkok and surrounding areas may take longer.
"The Airport Rail Link, Red Line, BTS Skytrain and MRT are also operating, along with BMTA airport bus services A1-A4 at Don Mueang.
"Passengers should check their flight and current travel conditions and allow sufficient time for their journeys,” the statement read.
TAT said most tourism areas and attractions across Bangkok remain accessible, including Siam and Ratchaprasong, Chinatown, Talat Noi and Song Wat.
"Major cultural attractions in Bangkok’s historic area, including the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho and Wat Arun, also remain accessible to visitors.
"Visitors are advised to allow additional travel time and check current weather, traffic, attraction opening information and public transport conditions before setting out, as conditions may vary by area,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, TAT said most major tourism destinations in the country continue to operate normally, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Sukhothai and Nan in the North; Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Buriram and Ubon Ratchathani in the North-East; and Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Surat Thani and Hat Yai in the South.
For intercity travel, it said the State Railway of Thailand’s Northern Line has reopened, while the North-Eastern and Southern lines are also operating. Some sections of the Eastern Line remain affected, with services adjusted accordingly.
Marine transport schedules may be adjusted depending on weather and sea conditions, TAT said.
TAT is monitoring the situation and coordinating with the relevant authorities to provide visitor information and facilitate assistance where appropriate.
Visitors requiring assistance are advised to contact the relevant authorities or the TAT Contact Centre for information and guidance.
