TOKYO: A tropical depression in the Pacific Ocean south of Japan is forecast to become a typhoon by 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The storm may reach the Tokyo area and other parts of the main island of Honshu during the long holiday period known as Silver Week, from Sept. 19 to 23, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The tropical depression was in waters off the Mariana Islands as of noon on Wednesday, moving west at 10 kph.
